Spartans On Ice? Lewis Mills becomes part of a hockey co-op

The opportunity to play hockey at Lewis S. Mills has arrived and this winter a group of Mills  students will be lacing up their skates and hitting the ice as high school hockey players. What was once just a nice thought is now a reality as Lewis Mills joins Farmington, Avon, and Windsor in a four team co-op.

The Board of Education had a meeting on June 8, during this meeting they approved a motion which allowed the athletic director, Mr. David Francalangia, to accept the co-op invitation from Farmington. In a meeting with Mr. Francalangia, he explained that he and the Friends of Lewis Mills Hockey made the presentation to the board, and a group of at least six kids plan on joining the team.

It’s clear that the administration is on board with this initiative and many students at LSM seem to be excited as well. In an interview Anthony Licata, a senior at Mills, articulated how some of the student body felt about hockey coming to Mills.

“I think it is great that Mills has joined the co-op and I know many of my friends have been talking about going to watch the games. I think it would be a lot of fun to go and support the team and hockey is a really fun sport  to watch,” he explained.

Licata is not the only one who wants to watch the hockey team play, actually many of the students here have said  if the hockey team plays games close enough to Burlington, that they would definitely come out and support the team. Mr. Francalangia was not able to tell anyone where the games will be held, but he said he will have more information to give to the public about the team next week. Another meeting was slated in mid-October to discuss some of the logistics of the co-op.

With many people looking forward to this season, hopefully the team will enjoy a lot of success this winter. So if you need something to look forward to this winter clear a couple of dates and make time to sit down and watch the Spartans take the ice.
