Budget woes prompt administrative shifts

Recently there have been changes in administration due to the budget crisis. Superintendent Alan Beitman said that these changes were made to prevent layoffs and preserve after-school activities. Christopher Rau, who was formerly the high school principal, will be the principal of both Lewis S. Mills High School and Har-Bur Middle School effective immediately.

Even with this change, Rau said he still plans on being a part of school events, activities, and sports, he said in an email to faculty and parents. Dr. Katherine Blore will become the associate principal of Mills, she was formerly the assistant principal there. Kenneth Smith will now be the associate principal of Har-Bur. In addition, Peter Bogan and Martha Rouleau will both assume the position of Dean of Students of the middle school. This alteration could ultimately save the district about $100,000 in school funding, according to Beitman, who likened the savings to the equivalent of two teacher salaries.

As of Friday afternoon the State Legislature had yet to adopt a budget, leaving the among of funding Region 10 stands to loose uncertain.
